Powering a Live Spectacle at Melbourne Exhibition Centre

The Challenge

Banson engaged Microhire to manage all technical production for a high-impact corporate show held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. The event featured more than 200 live performers and 25 acts, with a massive LED stage backdrop serving as the visual centrepiece.

The brief required a sophisticated and reliable production design that could transform a cavernous exhibition bay into an immersive, television-style environment. Critical considerations included load-bearing risks, structural safety, and the coordination of extensive lighting, audio, staging, and content delivery systems.

The Solution

Microhire delivered full technical production across vision, lighting, audio, rigging, and staging to bring Banson’s ambitious event to life.

Vision and LED Integration
  • Installed a 14m x 6m floor-mounted LED wall using over 390 panels
  • Supported with 20K HD projectors and 20 x 11” delay screens
  • Designed a Riedel signal system for fast, broadcast-style transitions
  • Used Analogue Way Ascenders to route content to the LED wall, lectern, foldback monitors, and presentation screens
  • Ran content from Mac show computers with dual backup systems
  • Live-mixed three camera feeds and recorded the full event
Lighting Design
  • Installed 230+ intelligent and static lights
  • Lighting Director programmed custom scenes for all 25 acts
  • Extended lighting into audience areas for immersive effects
Audio System
  • Custom-designed PA for venue acoustics, presenters, and performances
  • Included delay, front fill, stage monitors, and presenter foldback
Rigging and Safety
  • Conducted a full rigging assessment to manage truss loads
  • Resolved potential floor and ceiling weight issues
  • Modified designs to ensure safety and structural compliance
Staging and Management
  • Delivered staging with brand-coloured carpet, VIP seating, and a large overhead sign
  • Managed makeup, hair, stage ops, and interpreter coordination
  • Over 100 crew installed 8+ tonnes of equipment in a 15-hour build
