Lighting Up Moustache Season with a Full-Scale AV Experience

The Challenge

Movember engaged Microhire to deliver full technical and creative production for the Mo Gala, the official finale of Moustache Season. Held at Melbourne’s Festival Hall, the event brought together over 2000 guests for an evening of awards, entertainment, and celebration.

As Movember’s flagship event, the production needed to reflect the brand’s personality, showcase top fundraising efforts, and elevate the moustache in all its glory. The large venue posed challenges regarding atmosphere and budget control, with expectations for a high-impact show that remained financially efficient.

The Solution

Microhire managed all aspects of technical and creative production, including:

Visual Projection
- Deployed a 20-metre-wide screen with blended projection technology
- Used the screen to showcase sponsors, awards, thematic visuals, and dynamic effects
Audio and Show Support
- Provided full audio coverage for speeches, presentations, and live performances, including a DJ
Lighting and Creative Design
- Designed a choreographed lighting show using intelligent fixtures to transform the space
- Created multiple lighting scenes to shift mood and atmosphere throughout the evening
Budget and Resource Management
- Maximised use of Microhire’s in-house lighting and projection inventory
- Delivered a large-scale visual and technical result while keeping the production on budget

The Results

The gala was delivered on time, on budget, and exceeded expectations. The creative design elevated the energy in a vast venue, helping Movember celebrate its community, acknowledge outstanding contributions, and close the season with an unforgettable night.
