Bringing the Queensland Tourism Awards to Life On Screen and On Stage

The Challenge

Microhire was engaged to deliver full technical production for the Queensland Tourism Awards at the Royal International Convention Centre. With over 850 guests in attendance and a national live broadcast on ABC and iView, the event required precision across all AV elements. The brief also called for a high-energy atmosphere to support both the awards and a live performance from the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The Solution

Microhire delivered complete AV production across vision, audio, lighting, and staging:

  • Vision and Broadcast
    • Designed and installed an 18.3-metre blend screen with two 20K Christie HD projectors
    • Managed all camera feeds and switching with Encore Blend technology
    • Broadcast live to ABC and streamed online via iView
    • Integrated RF and Steadicam setups for live interviews and room coverage
  • Audio and Lighting
    • Delivered a high-quality entertainment audio package
    • Supported live performances, including a feature from Megan Washington and the 75-member cast of Rocky Horror
    • Programmed theatrical lighting with studio-grade stage wash and gobo effects to match the event branding
  • Staging and Rigging
    • Installed Tivoli stairs and perspex lectern for award presentations
    • Mounted cameras on the ceiling grid for wide-angle shots
    • Lowered the lighting grid to 6 metres to enhance the “Time Warp” performance moment

The Results

  • Delivered a seamless national broadcast and in-room experience for over 850 guests
  • Supported high-profile performances with theatre-quality lighting and sound
  • Created a visually striking and professionally staged event that met broadcast and entertainment standards
  • Received outstanding feedback from both the client and the broadcast team
